Magento 2: Hyvä theme with Tailwind and Alpine
Magento 2 / Adobe Commerce (Open Source) with the Hyvä theme (Tailwind CSS + Alpine.js, no RequireJS/Knockout/jQuery). The default for new front ends and for migrations from Luma. Hyvä requires a licence - keys go in composer auth.json, not in the repo.
Magento 2: Luma or Blank theme for existing shops
Magento 2 / Adobe Commerce (Open Source) with a child theme of Magento/luma or Magento/blank (RequireJS, Knockout, jQuery, UI components, LESS). For maintaining and improving an EXISTING Luma shop where migrating to Hyvä is not (yet) on the table. For a new shop pick CLAUDE.magento-hyva.md - the Luma stack cannot reach Hyvä's performance numbers, and this file does not pretend otherwise.
Magento 2: custom module for both front-end stacks
custom Magento 2 / Adobe Commerce (Open Source) module in app/code. For integrations (API, feed, ERP, payment, shipping), admin entities with grids, product fields, REST/GraphQL endpoints, front-end blocks for the Luma or Hyvä theme.
